Biden describes the attack on institutions in Brasilia as "outrageous"

MADRID, 9 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The president of the United States, Joe Biden, has condemned the "assault on democracy" in Brazil, which he has described as "outrageous", and has shown his support for his Brazilian counterpart, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

"I condemn the assault on democracy and the peaceful transfer of power in Brazil. The democratic institutions of Brazil have our full support and the will of the Brazilian people must not be undermined," Biden said on his official profile on the social network Twitter .

Likewise, the US president has described the situation in Brazil as "outrageous", when asked by journalists during a visit to the US border in El Paso, Texas, as reported by the White House.

Thousands of followers of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro have completed this Sunday the assault on the institutions that had been protesting in the streets for more than two months. The headquarters of the Congress, the Presidency and the Supreme Court have been assaulted by those who demand a military intervention and the deposition of a leader, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, whose legitimacy they do not recognize.

For his part, Bolsonaro, who left the country before the change of office on January 1, traveled to Florida, where he continues to this day, without having yet ruled on the attack on the institutions.
