MADRID, 7 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

At least one person has been killed and three injured in an explosion at a police station in the city of Bandung, capital of Indonesia's West Java province, in what is suspected to be a suicide bombing.

The explosion occurred this Wednesday, around 08:30 (02:30 Spanish peninsular time) at the Astanaanyar district police station, after a man tried to gain access with a bladed weapon.

"The members have tried to stop (the man brandishing a knife), then there was an explosion. The perpetrator carrying the bomb has died in the lobby of the Police station. Three of our members were injured and are now being treated at the National Police Hospital," Bandung Police Chief Kombespol Aswin told Kompas TV.

Two hours later, another explosion was heard around the location of the first incident, which is cordoned off by the Police, reports the Indonesian news agency Antara.

Police have urged residents and journalists to stay away from the area of the event. The governor of West Java, Ridwan Kamil, has spoken along these lines, calling for calm.

"Keep calm, the Police are taking charge of the situation," he declared this Wednesday during the visit to the barracks involved in the event, as reported by the media.

"My message once again is to remain calm. The situation is under control. The West Java Regional Police will issue a statement," he added.
