RECKLINGHAUSEN (ALEMANIA), 3 Feb. (DPA/EP) -
A minor has died and another has been seriously injured this Thursday at the last minute after being hit by a freight train in the German city of Recklinghausen, in North Rhine-Westphalia, as reported by the German Police.
A ten-year-old boy has been seriously injured and another nine-year-old boy has suffered serious injuries and has been taken to the hospital at first, only to die shortly after, as detailed by the Police in statements to the DPA agency.
Earlier, the North Rhine-Westphalia Minister of the Interior, Herbert Reul, went to the scene and explained that the nine-year-old boy was struggling to survive.
According to the first reports from the local media, a group of young people, including minors, had been caught by the train and dragged several hundred meters, all after being near the tracks.
Firefighters have deployed a drone with thermal cameras to scout the scene. Meanwhile, the affected section of the road has been closed indefinitely, all while the circumstances of the incident continue to be investigated.
Numerous emergency services traveled to the scene, including more than twenty police officers and some 35 firefighters and members of the emergency teams.
