Urkullu urges to reform the law of 'only yes is yes' or to unify doctrine "to guarantee the protection of women"

BILBAO, 18 Nov. (EUROPE PRESS) -

The Lehendakari, Iñigo Urkullu, has urged this Friday to find a solution to avoid "the unwanted problems" that the application of the Law of 'only yes is yes' is generating, either by proceeding to its modification, or through the unification of doctrine, or through both formulas, "to guarantee the protection of women".

Urkullu has referred, in this way, to the controversy that has arisen around the new Law for the Comprehensive Guarantee of Sexual Freedom, known as the "only yes is yes" law, in whose application the sentences are being lowered, in some cases to the aggressors.

The Lehendakari has assured that the objective of the regulation "is clear: to offer greater protection to women". "The problems that have been generated are undesired because it is obvious that they go against an objective that is shared by all of society," he asserted.

For this reason, he believes that it is urgent to seek a solution, "either through the unification of the doctrine, or through the modification of the law, or both". "The urgent thing is to avoid decisions that nobody wants, reduce the stridency and act rationally at the service of a greater good: guarantee the protection of women," she insisted.
