Set for March 2025 the start of the trial for the award of the reopening of the Aznalcóllar mine (Seville)

The Third Section of the Court of Seville has issued a new diligence, in which it sets for March 3, 2025 the beginning of the trial corresponding to the investigation of the award of the exploitation rights of the Los Frailes mining deposit, in Aznalcóllar , to the México-Minorbis business group, a process in which the opening of an oral trial against the 16 people finally prosecuted weighs.

Specifically, in this procedure issued last Wednesday and collected by Europa Press, the Third Section of the Hearing sets a schedule for the trial sessions, which begins on March 3 and 4, 2025 with the previous questions, to conclude the trial. July 15 of that same year.

This, after last October 2021, the investigating judge Patricia Fernández Franco agreed to open an oral trial against the 16 people prosecuted in the case, including among those affected by said measure the brothers Mario and Isidro López Magdaleno, president and vice president of the Cordovan company Magtel; the former president of the State Company for Industrial Participations (SEPI) Vicente Cecilio Fernández Guerrero for his role as former secretary general of the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Employment; the former Director General of Mines of the Junta de Andalucía María José Asensio Coto; officials of the Junta de Andalucía Pastora Sánchez de la Cuesta Sánchez Ibargüen, Julio Ramos Zabala and José Marcos Acosta Plaza as members of the contracting committee; the former secretary general of the Environment Delegation of Seville Salvador Camacho Lucena and Iván Maldonado as head of the Mining Service of the Board, also for his role in the contracting table.
