Three months later, Meta's CEO Mark Zuckerberg, explained how Instagram plans to introduce NFTs at the South by Southwest event in Texas.

Meta CEO Hints NFT features are coming to Instagram

According to statements made by Meta's CEO Mark Zuckerberg this week at SXSW, NFTs will soon be available on Instagram. At the event, Zuckerberg talked to Daymond John from Shark Tank. He explained that Instagram users can also mint NFTs.

The news about Instagram's entry into the NFT world was originally reported by the CEO of the company, Adam Mosseri, at an AMA. The Financial Times (FT), a news publication, also spoke with unnamed sources at the end January 2022.

FT reports that unnamed sources claim that both Meta and Instagram are discussing "launching a marketplace for users buy and sell NFTs." Zuckerberg gave details to Shark Tank star and suggests that the launch may be closer than many think. Although the Meta CEO didn't share much information, he stated that "we are working to bring NFTs onto Instagram in the near future."

While I am not ready to reveal exactly what it will be, I can bring in some of your NFTs over the next few months and hopefully, be able over time to mint things within that environment.

Zuckerberg has expressed interest blockchain technology and cryptocurrency in the past. Apparently, his pet goat was named "Bitcoin" and was recently discarded by the to be sold. The Diem intellectual property (IP), was then bought by Silvergate this summer.

Facebook also changed the name of its parent company to Meta. The company plans to expand the network of 3D virtual realms known as the metaverse with the help of Oculus, its subsidiary and other resources.
