JJpD asks to "free the CGPJ" from the "irrational kidnapping" to which it is subjected in view of the presidency of the Council of the EU

MADRID, 4 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Association Judges and Judges for Democracy (JJpD) has asked to "free the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ)" from the "irrational kidnapping" to which it is "subjected", thus ignoring the requests of the European Union and facing to the Spanish presidency of the Council of the EU in the second half of 2023.

"The importance of this body is essential for the functioning of the EU and it will put Spain in a position of visibility that is incompatible with the scandalous situation of institutional degradation that exists in the judiciary due to the lack of renewal of its governing body", JJpD lamented in a statement.

For the association, the "image of degradation" that "returns the mirror of European requests" reveals "the baseness of the permanent political anger that surrounds Spain." This situation tramples, with this unsustainable paralysis, basic values of the Union European Union and the Spanish Constitution, as is the principle of legality. There are no more arguments or reasons for its maintenance than partisan sectarianism that like a cancer corrodes our public life", he pointed out in this regard.

Likewise, he recalled that "basic aspects of the Rule of Law are being affected with a CGPJ that is simply inoperative and has been almost non-existent for too long", which, he has warned, "deprives it of the trust of its own and others and makes it ineffective for his purposes."

"This situation should be an unbearable image for those public servants who represent a country that will come to occupy direct responsibility for the operation of a successful, efficient and reliable structure in the international promotion of democratic values and the rule of law", has insisted JJpD.

In this way, he has demanded that public representatives, members of the Cortes Generales and the institutions and parties "comply with the Constitution and the law that they swore to comply with at the beginning of their mandate."

Likewise, it has demanded that the members of the CGPJ resign. "We ask you to leave to facilitate the return to a normality that, no matter how far back in time, we cannot renounce. Resign for yourselves. Resign for the citizens. Resign for the institution you once served," has sentenced the association.
