Gandia will host the National Research Awards ceremony

The mayor highlights that the event puts the city "on the map of talent and research in Spain"

The Valencian town of Gandia will host, on March 14, the ceremony for the National Research Awards 2023, while Las Palmas de Gran Canaria will host the National Innovation and Design Awards 2023, on April 11 . Both events will be presided over by Their Majesties the Kings of Spain.

The Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities, Diana Morant, has highlighted "the commitment of these municipalities to public policies that have science and innovation as the axis of opportunities for their citizens."

Morant also recalled that these awards, which are Spain's most important recognition in these areas, highlight the talent of the awarded people and entities that, with their work, contribute to the advancement and progress of our society.

This will be the third time that the National Research Awards ceremony, since its creation in 1982, has been held outside of Madrid. The two previous editions took place in Alicante (2022 edition) and Barcelona (2021 edition).

The distinctions, endowed with 30,000 euros for each modality, distinguish those researchers from Spain who stand out for their career and international relevance in their respective areas of research, emphasizes the Ministry of Science in a statement.

In addition, the categories of the National Research Awards for Young People, which are named after illustrious scientists, recognize the merit of young people - with a maximum age of 40 years - who have achieved relevant achievements in the early stages of their research careers.

For the first time, 'Young innovative talent' These awards distinguish people and entities that have made innovation an essential element in the development of their professional strategy and business growth.

Likewise, they recognize the professionals and companies that have contributed significantly to increasing the prestige of Spanish design and the entities that, incorporating it into their business strategy, have demonstrated that design is a powerful lever of innovation and competitiveness.

The total budget of the awards has increased in this edition to 160,000 euros and the call has incorporated, for the first time, the 'Young innovative talent' modality, aimed at people under 36 years of age.

The Gandia City Council has celebrated that with this designation the capital of Safor "is on the talent map of Spain."

The Minister of Science already announced that Gandia would have a headquarters of the Spanish Oceanographic Institute, an institution dependent on the Higher Center for Scientific Research (CSIC), which will be installed in the surroundings of the sheds, taking advantage of the consolidated track record of the Joint Technology Unit for Marine Studies.
