Campo chooses to abstain from the deliberations of the TC on the "only yes is yes" and the vote on the labor reform

The Constitutional Court will address his abstention and that of Díez in its plenary session next week

MADRID, 20 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Judge Juan Carlos Campo has chosen to abstain from the deliberations that the Constitutional Court (TC) will carry out in its plenary session next week on the admission or not of Vox's appeal against what is known as the 'law of only yes is yes' and on various matters related to the vote on the labor reform in the Congress of Deputies, according to sources from the court of guarantees consulted by Europa Press.

The aforementioned sources indicate that the Plenary of the TC will address the requests for abstention from both Campo and his partner Laura Díez, who has decided to depart from the deliberation on an issue related to the Catalan law that eliminates 25% of the Castilian in the classrooms.

The abstentions are due to the fact that, although neither of the two magistrates are in charge of the presentation on the aforementioned issues, they understand that there may be a conflict of interest if they participate in the deliberation and resolution of the same due to their previous responsibilities, point out the same sources.

In the case of the former Minister of Justice, the 'law of only yes is yes' was drawn up when he was still sitting on the Council of Ministers and the appeals directed by PP and Vox against the vote on the labor reform point to the president of Congress of the Deputies, Meritxel Batet, current partner of Campo.

As for Díez, she signed several opinions of the Council of Statutory Guarantees of Catalonia, as vice president, in favor of not imposing 25% of Spanish in the classrooms of the autonomous community.

In addition, the Plenary of the TC will address the challenges formulated by Vox against these two magistrates, his partner María Luisa Segoviano and the president of the Constitutional Court, Cándido Conde-Pumpido.

Vox pointed to Campo for his relationship with Batet and his previous positions as Minister of Justice and Socialist deputy, considering that he could "have a direct or indirect interest" for having appeals against laws "that his former colleagues in the parliamentary group have approved."

In relation to Díez, the party singled her out for having "participated directly or indirectly in the matter that is the subject of the lawsuit, due to her status as a high position in the Ministry of the Presidency and being trusted personnel of Minister Félix Bolaños."

Regarding Segoviano, he mentioned his statements "while he was an emeritus magistrate of the Supreme Court." Specifically, when she referred to self-determination in the following terms: "This is a very complex issue, extremely complex. It is a subject with many edges that must be studied."

Finally, Conde-Pumpido said that he could have been "defender or representative of one of the parties or intervene in a lawsuit as a prosecutor." Vox also considers that he would have "participated directly or indirectly in the matter that is the subject of the lawsuit."
