Ainia promotes the AccelerEAT project for the transformation and competitiveness of the food value chain

The Ainia Food and Agriculture Technology Institute has promoted the AccelerEAT project with the aim of accelerating the transformation of the food value chain in Spain, its competitiveness and sustainability.

This is an initiative of which 18 innovative companies from the food industry are part, which plans to invest 48 million euros until June 2025 within the framework of the Strategic Project for the Economic Recovery and Transformation (PERTE) of the agri-food sector promoted by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, as reported by Ainia in a statement.

AccelerEAT includes 22 primary collaborative projects to contribute to "improve the competitiveness and productivity of the most innovative agri-food industry".

This proposal will accelerate the sustainable production of new foods and ingredients based on alternative raw materials --new varieties of plants, insects, algae, fungi, microorganisms or by-products--, with a smaller ecological footprint and obtained through innovative and sustainable transformation processes. industry, explained the technology center.

To this end, it will focus its actions on several areas of an industrial nature such as industrial production of alternative raw materials, transformation, upcycling of by-products, sustainable water, waste and energy management, digitization and transversal actions in traceability.

Among the 18 companies participating in the initiative, belonging to nine autonomous communities, there are seven large agri-food companies: Vicky Foods, Bunge, Dacsa, Grupo Acesur, Agriconsa, Biotech Foods or Aldelís. Eleven SMEs are added to these: Grupo Carinsa, Trazable, Cocuus, MOA Footech, Proteinsecta, Biorizon Biotech, Darwin Bioprospecting Excellence, Hifas da Terra, Tebrio, Valencian Association of Farmers (AVA) and Innolact.

The commissioner for PERTE Agrifood, Jordi Carbonell, and the regional secretary for Sustainable Economy, Productive Sectors, Commerce and Consumption of the Generalitat Valenciana, Empar Martínez, have met at the Ainia facilities to meet the companies that make up the consortium and learn the details of the AccelerEAT tractor project. Martínez has also learned about the project during a visit to the company that leads the consortium, Vicky Foods.

The Strategic Project for Economic Recovery and Transformation (PERTE) for the industrial strengthening of the agri-food sector has received applications for 22 driving projects worth 755 million euros, from 350 participating companies.
