A startup from the UMH science park creates a smart label that warns of poor food status

ALICANTE, 22 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The "innovative" smart label developed by the company Oscillum of the Science Park of the Miguel Hernández University (PCUMH) in Elche (Alicante) is capable of visually alerting the state of decomposition of a food. This characteristic has earned it to participate in the first edition of the 'Scale the Impact' business acceleration program.

The signature of the PCUMH has been one of the 20 selected initiatives, among the 200 projects that presented their candidacy. The business acceleration program aims to promote a new generation of startups focused on growing and generating a greater economic, social and environmental impact, as indicated by the academic institution this Wednesday in a statement.

The development of 'Oscillum', the 'SmartLabel' label is composed of polymers, which give it its mechanical properties, and different chemical sensors, which are responsible for analyzing and detecting in real time the molecules produced by the decomposition of food .

Thus, the label changes color depending on the level of decomposition of the food. Currently, 'SmartLabel' is already "fully functional" for fresh meat and fish. In addition, the company has announced that, by the end of 2023, they seek to market a new smart label developed in Europe to analyze the state of fruit.

Now, the company will be focused on participating in the 'Scale the Impact' program promoted by Danone and the Social Nets Foundation, which aims to "provide solutions to the most urgent social and environmental challenges worldwide".

In this first edition, projects that operate in sustainable and regenerative agriculture, specialized nutrition, circular economy and future of retail have been selected, with the aim of covering all areas of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). With your participation, the PCUMH firm will have the opportunity to establish relationships with companies, entities and entrepreneurs.

You will also be able to access financing and investment opportunities. In addition, it will increase its visibility thanks to attendance at the most emblematic events in the tech sector.

'Oscillum' is a company promoted by UMH Biotechnology graduates Luis Chimeno, Pilar Granado and Pablo Sosa. The entity arose after being one of the participating projects in the 'UMH Marathon'. Recently, its promoters have been chosen by 'Forbes' magazine, which has recognized 30 young people under 30 for their talent in creating impactful projects.
