1916 Zanzibar 100-rupee note Shirts Spink auction

The notice has never appeared in the auction, and positions as the funniest at a string of notes in which all issues are elusive at best. Barnaby Faull, Spink's manager of bank notesdescribed it as"undoubtedly among those World's great banknote rarities."

1916 Zanzibar 100-rupee note Shirts Spink auction

The blue and light hearted tan-orange dilemma with a reddish serial number gets the normal face layout of a dhow in farmers and left picking cloves on the right. It's perforated with all the world CANCELLED.

The back is clean. Spink reported it is very likely that about 100 years ago it had been endorsed on newspaper, that became brittle with age. That newspaper was eliminated, and the rest of the note was rated Very Fine 30 Web by Paper Money Guaranty.

The estimated selling price was 40,000 to #60,000.

Spink says it had been found at the Zanzibar area.

Another auction ran on the Identical day provided the 35 notes from the Drs. Joanne and Edward Dauer Collection of English Banknotes. Just four of those #1,000 notes have been rated by PMG, just two of which can be signed by Peppiatt. This is the sole example given Exceptional Paper Quality.
