Zarco, Dixon and Sasaki strike first at Thailand premiere

MADRID, 30 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Italian Johann Zarco (Ducati), in MotoGP; the British Jake Dixon (Kalex), in Moto2; and the Japanese Ayumu Sasaki (Husqvarna), in Moto3, dominated the first day of free practice at the Thai Grand Prix, the seventeenth round of the Motorcycle World Championship, in which the Spanish Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda) finished fourth.

Zarco managed to improve his time in the morning, where he was twelfth, to establish a 1:30.281 that earned him command of the time table at the Chang International Circuit ahead of two other Ducati, those of the Italian Francesco 'Pecco' Bagnaia and Spaniard Jorge Martin.

Following the Borgo Panigale machines finished Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda), who was the fastest in the first session and was unable to cut his morning time in the afternoon. Neither did the leader of the championship, Frenchman Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha), who finished the day in fifth position.

The Spanish Aleix Espargaró (Aprilia), third overall, was thirteenth and was left out of a 'Top 10' in which Alex Rins (Suzuki) did enter, ninth. Weather forecasts point to rain on Saturday morning, so the current combined could be crucial.

In Moto2, the British Jake Dixon (Kalex) was the fastest on the first day in Buriram ahead of the Spaniards Alonso López (Boscoscuro) and Augusto Fernández (Kalex), leader of the World Championship and who suffered a fall without consequences in the section end of the second session.

The Spaniard started the event ahead of his great opponent for the championship, the Japanese Ai Ogura (Kalex), two points overall and who finished seventh on Friday. Valencian Arón Canet (Kalex), third in the World Championship and who failed to finish the race at Motegi, was sixteenth despite crashing.

Pedro Acosta (Kalex), fifth; Jorge Navarro (Kalex), eighth; Jeremy Alcoba (Kalex), ninth; and Fermín Aldeguer (Boscoscuro), tenth.

Finally, the Japanese Ayumu Sasaki (Husqvarna) led the combined Moto3, with a time of 1:43.503, ahead of his compatriot Tatsuki Suzuki (Honda), with the Italian Riccardo Rossi (Honda) third, more than eight tenths. In addition, the Spanish Dani Holgado (KTM) and Jaume Masià (KTM) got into the 'Top 5' of the day.

Meanwhile, the leader of the general, Izan Guevara (GasGas), was seventh, ahead of Iván Ortolá (KTM), and takes advantage over his teammate and main rival for the title, Sergio García Dols (GasGas), who could only be thirteenth and that at least remains within the provisional 'Top 14' that gives direct access to Q2.
