Yolanda Díaz respects Sánchez's commitments to NATO but insists: the spending ceiling does not include an increase in Defense

MADRID, 31 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Second Vice President of the Government and Minister of Labor, Yolanda Díaz, has insisted today that the spending ceiling does not include the increase in the budget of the Ministry of Defence, but she wanted to specify that she respects the commitments of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, in reference to those assumed with NATO to increase defense spending to 2 percent of GDP in the coming years.

During a press conference at the Ministry of Labor, after a meeting with the Citizen Assembly for Climate, the minister wanted to make it clear that she maintains her statement from last Monday that "the increase in spending is not included in the spending ceiling defense". "I have not said anything else", she has warned before pointing out that in Law it is said that "where there is paper, beards are silent". "Here there is no paper but there is a document that can be heard. I'll leave it here," she snapped.

However, and as a result of yesterday's statements by the Government Spokesperson that they are going to comply with the president's commitment to NATO, which means increasing defense spending to 2 percent of GDP in the coming years, Yolanda Díaz has specified that he will "always respect the position of the President of the Government in the powers he holds".

"The increase in defense spending is not included in the spending ceiling and, of course, absolute respect for the commitments of the Prime Minister," the second vice president stressed.
