Vox requests provisional prison for 'Tito Berni' considering that his "network of relationships" could "allow his escape"

The party warns that it could take the opportunity to destroy or hide "probative material necessary for the investigation"

MADRID, 2 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Vox has asked the judge instructing the 'Mediator' case to order provisional detention for the former PSOE deputy Juan Bernardo Fuentes Curbelo, alias 'Tito Berni', considering that the "wide network of relationships" available to him could "allow his escape at this time" given the "urgency and social alarm" generated after the summary secrecy was lifted.

As reported by Vox, the formation has requested the head of the Investigating Court Number 4 of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Ángeles Lorenzo-Cáceres, to agree to this measure, warning that, if it does not, Fuentes could take advantage of it to carry out "the destruction or concealment of probative material necessary for the investigation".

In the letter addressed to the magistrate, the party led by Santiago Abascal maintains that "as is verified as the days go by" it is clear "the link with other PSOE politicians and the long political career of the person investigated" that, "at the least since 1994, he has held various political posts". "He has been weaving a wide network of relationships, which could allow him to escape from him at this time," he warns.

The formation insists that "the existence of the alleged criminal plot of which Fuentes would be the leadership reveals its importance in this organization, of which some of its members and also investigated are in preventive detention for the reasons contemplated in the legislation".

"And, therefore, the same ones also concur in the case of the former PSOE deputy, even more so since he could be called the ringleader of the plot. In addition, the intervention of Fuentes would be decisive in the facts investigated, since it was not they could have committed with the scope that is glimpsed without their collaboration in them," Vox argues.

This request from the party comes after the statement came to light on February 22 before the judge of 'Tito Berni'. In it, the former deputy denied being part of the leadership of the so-called 'Mediator plot', accused of attracting businessmen under the promise of "obtaining privileges" in public procurement, while acknowledging that his company received European aid when he was in charge of the management of Livestock of the Canary Islands.

In the summary of the procedure, to which Europa Press has had access, the investigators indicate that the plot under suspicion would be headed by Fuentes Curbelo himself; his nephew Taishet Fuentes Gutiérrez, General Director of Livestock; the General of the Civil Guard Francisco Espinosa Navas and the Canarian businessman Antonio Navarro Tacoronte, also known as the "mediator".

Faced with such indications, the judge directly asked Fuentes Curbelo in his statement if he was the one who introduced the members of the said plot. "Are you the one who introduces Navarro Tacoronte to his nephew? At what point is this triangle formed?" The instructor questioned him.

The former deputy stood out. "I don't know what triangle you ask me about," he said. The judge replied: "The one that obviously exists. Navarro meets with his nephew, meets with you and between the three of you there is a crossover of conversations and transfers and payments."
