Vox asks Sánchez to demand from Morocco the "explicit" recognition of Spanish sovereignty over Ceuta and Melilla

MADRID, 1 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Vox wants the Government to demand from Morocco an "explicit" recognition of Spanish sovereignty over Ceuta and Melilla to turn this affirmation into "the basis" of bilateral relations between the two countries and end the "aspirations" of the Alaouite kingdom over the two Autonomous cities.

In a non-law proposal registered in the Congress of Deputies, Vox calls on the Executive of Pedro Sánchez to promote "diplomatically" the "explicit and unreserved" recognition by Morocco of Spanish sovereignty over Ceuta and Melilla, as well as over the Chafarinas Islands, the rocks of Alhucemas and Vélez de la Gomera and the islet of Perejil.

"The existence of territories of Spanish sovereignty in North Africa has been one of the main problems in bilateral relations between Spain and Morocco, a country that alleges the supposed 'colonial' nature of these territories," warns Santiago Abascal's party.

However, in his opinion, these Moroccan "aspirations" lack a "legal" basis, since they are territories that are part of Spain "for all purposes" and before the formal constitution of Morocco as a State in 1956. .

In addition, it underlines that Spanish sovereignty over all these territories is expressly included in article 3 of the Treaty of Peace and Friendship of April 26, 1860, concluded between Spain and Morocco.

Despite everything, he censures that Morocco has "aspired" to the annexation of the territories in North Africa "in contradiction to the legally enforceable norms of international law" and accuses the Alaouite kingdom of pressuring Spain using methods such as immigration.

Vox believes that now the King of Morocco, Mohamed VI, "takes advantage of the weakness" of the PSOE-Podemos coalition government "to make his aspirations a reality" and, in addition, "benefits from the absence of a firm foreign policy of the successive governments.
