Victims of terrorism ask the judge to extend the investigation of the murder of Miguel Ángel Blanco

DyJ recalls that there are procedures "pending practice" and that the Police have yet to submit their report

MADRID, 27 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Dignity and Justice Association and the Victims of Terrorism Association (AVT) have asked the judge of the National Court in charge of investigating the murder of the PP councilor in Ermua Miguel Ángel Blanco to extend the case in which he tries to determine the possible responsibility of the leadership of ETA in the attack.

Both requests come after the Prosecutor's Office sent the head of the Central Court of Instruction Number 6, Manuel García Castellón, a report in which they asked him to extend the investigation for a period of six months. The magistrate gave an account of the report last Friday, then asking the parties to position themselves before making a decision.

For its part, the Dignity and Justice Association has presented this Wednesday a brief, to which Europa Press has had access, in which they are interested in the extension due to "the existence of different test procedures that apparently remain pending, such as the report requested to the National Police, among others".

"Taking into account both the complex nature of the facts investigated, as well as the very nature of the investigative procedures that have been agreed upon and not yet carried out, it is logically and rationally inferable that, in view of their results, it may be necessary to agree on other new procedures. , and except for the higher criteria of this Central Investigating Court, we understand that this must still be possible within a valid instruction period, "they maintain.

On the other hand, legal sources have confirmed to this news agency that the Victims of Terrorism Association has also asked the instructor to continue investigating for at least six more months.

Who has also urged the magistrate to prolong the investigation phase has been the sister of the mayor of the PP, Marimar Blanco, after Judge García Castellón admitted his appearance as a popular accusation. The Popular Party, for its part, adhered to the request of the Prosecutor's Office requesting in the same way that the investigations be extended.

It was last March when García Castellón agreed to reopen the investigation into the murder of Miguel Ángel Blanco after admitting a complaint filed by the Dignity and Justice Association.

The association directed its accusation against the nine heads of the terrorist organization at the time of the events: 'Anoboto', 'Kantauri', 'Mikel Albisu', Ignacio Miguel Gracia Arregui, 'Iñaki de Rentería'; Juan Carlos Iglesias Chouzas, 'Gaddafi'; and Asier Oyarzabal, 'Baltza'.

The judge agreed to call the first three under investigation and appreciated ex officio the prescription of the crimes for 'Iñaki de Rentería', a decision that both the Prosecutor's Office and the PP and DyJ have asked him to reverse. As for 'Kantauri', his possible statement is pending authorization by France.

It should be remembered that, in the case of Blanco's murder, the First Criminal Section of the National Court already sentenced in 2006 to 50 years in prison the former ETA leader Francisco Javier García Gaztelu, 'Txapote', and his sentimental partner and member of ETA Irantzu Gallastegui Sodupe, 'Amaia', as perpetrators.

In its sentence, the court assured that both "planned and executed the kidnapping and subsequent murder of Miguel Ángel Blanco, following the guidelines of the leadership of the terrorist organization ETA, whose most immediate objectives were the kidnapping of a PP councilor to demand in exchange for their release the approach of the prisoners of the gang to prisons in the Basque Country".
