UP will give the "political battle" to unlock housing after being left out of the PGE and requires the PSOE to freeze rents

He also regrets that his partner also leaves out the repeal of the Gag Law and demands that he withdraw his anti-squatting amendment

MADRID, 4 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

United We Can has assured that it will continue to give the "political battle" to unblock the Housing Law, after being left out of the budget agreement, and will pressure the PSOE to decree the freezing of rental prices until the regulations with a regulation of rentals for all owners.

He has also demanded that his coalition partner withdraw his anti-squatting amendment because it benefits the right by "buying their agenda" and insists on the need to repeal the harmful aspects of the Citizen Security Law, known by its critics as the 'Gag' Law. .

This has been transferred by the spokesman for the confederal group, Pablo Echenique, and the leader of En Comú Podem, Gerardo Pisarello, at press conferences in the Lower House, to positively assess the budget agreement that includes some demands of United We Can, especially in social spending.

Of course, Echenique has admitted that there has been no consensus on housing because the PSOE "has not wanted to move forward" on this matter, although he predicts that, as happened with the electricity sector, in the end the real estate market will have to intervene and that this issue it is a "demand of the progressive electorate".

In this regard, the leader of the purple formation has advanced that despite the fact that the PSOE "has told them no" to approve the housing law, they will not stop pushing to unblock it and will work, as always, "in the hands of their partners" with whom they share approaches and of organized civil society, which is already leading demonstrations.

"There is a movement for the right to housing full of reasons (...) We will continue to give the political battle so that this human right is guaranteed and not a speculative good subject to the market," he added.

He has also added that the left-wing electorate also requires the reversal of the 'Gag' Law and United We Can is going to "honor that demand."

In turn, Echenique has reaffirmed that they have already been "very clear" and demand the withdrawal of the amendment to evict squatters within 48 hours, within the framework of the organic law of organizational efficiency of the public service of Justice, because the urgency of families is to be able to pay the rent and face the rise in mortgages. "When the discourse of the right is bought, it is the right that advances, not the progressive parties," the leader of the purple formation has settled.

Meanwhile, Pisarello has ruled that the housing issue is "fundamental" and should have been part of the budget agreements. Therefore, he has stated that if the PSOE does not want to unravel the housing law, "at least undertake now" the freezing of rental prices, within the framework of the anti-crisis decree, in the face of "rampant inflation" that "devours" the family income.

"It is a common sense measure that countries of the European Union are proposing", the first secretary of the Congress Table has deepened to promise that United We Can "is not going to throw in the towel" on this matter.

His partner in En Comú Podem and president of the parliamentary group, Jaume Asens, has insisted that the "challenge" continues to be housing and that he views with "sadness" that an opportunity to improve the Housing Law is missed, as was done by example before in the public accounts with the Minimum Vital Income.

"The PSOE must work for the citizens, not for the vulture funds", he has sentenced to criticize that the Socialists send "a different message" to the one transmitted by the Budgets themselves.

However, and despite this discrepancy, United We Can has claimed that these public accounts are an "example" of their usefulness within the Government, highlighting above all the new tax on large fortunes that they have demanded since the beginning of the legislature.

Echenique has highlighted that for the third consecutive year they have achieved "expansive" budgets with "courageous" measures in the tax chapter and policies that make the Welfare State "more sustainable". Of course, he has reiterated that his formation will be vigilant with the PSOE in terms of military spending so that it does not make "unilateral" increases in this field.

The feeling within the confederal space is that they have achieved powerful measures, such as increased salaries for civil servants, revaluation of pensions and significant although partial advances in the Family Law.

However, they consider that the PSOE makes a strategic mistake by not yet unblocking the Housing Law and opts for a position in this matter, which can give electoral gains to the conservative sector and cause the demobilization of the progressive bases.

In this way, they are going to continue pushing to repeal the 'Gag' Law and improve housing with rent regulation for all owners, prohibit evictions without housing alternatives for vulnerable families and increase the housing stock with Sareb flats, since These improvements will help the approval of the progressive partners and now it is not guaranteed that the text issued by the Council of Ministers will have sufficient support.
