The Armed Forces of Ukraine have assured this Monday that they have taken control of the city of Torske, located in the Donetsk region (east), as part of a counteroffensive in the area, without the Russian authorities having spoken at the moment. about the situation.

The spokesman for the Eastern Group of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Serhiy Cherevati, stressed that Army units "have taken the village of Torske, on their way to Kreminaya", before adding that the Russian forces "are trying to strengthen their positions in Kreminaya and build defenses.

In this sense, he stressed that the Russian troops "are attacking with artillery fire" to try to prevent the advance of the Ukrainian forces, according to the Ukrainian news agency UNIAN. "Our units continue to work because there are remnants (of the Russian troops) in the forests, stabilizing the situation, capturing the occupants and demining", he has settled.

This advance of the Ukrainian troops comes just one day after the President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski, announced that the city of Liman, located in the Donetsk region and the gateway to neighboring Lugansk, is "completely liberated".

Russian Army spokesman Igor Konashenkov confirmed on Saturday the withdrawal of Russian forces from the city. "Since there was a threat of encirclement, the allied troops were withdrawn from the settlement towards more advantageous lines," Konashenkov explained at a press conference collected by the TASS agency.

The city was used by the Russian Army as a vital transportation hub. There, according to Ukrainian estimates, around 5,000 Russian soldiers remained surrounded on Saturday, the largest siege on a Russian contingent since the beginning of the war.
