UGT denounces "dismantling" of Siemens Gamesa and asks the CNMV to ensure the application of an industrial plan

MADRID, 30 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Federation of Industry, Construction and Agro (FICA) of UGT has denounced the process of "gradual and scheduled dismantling" of Siemens Gamesa, with the announcement of a new job cut plan for the group that will affect 475 jobs in Spain , and has demanded that the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV) "make sure this time that Siemens is going to apply an industrial plan and ensure the maintenance of I D i in Spain".

In a statement, the union denounces that, since the entry of Siemens into Gamesa in 2017, the Spanish company "has gone from being a profitable and stable company to being immersed in several processes of plant closures and employment adjustments."

"At the same time that Siemens swept away all the management positions from Gamesa with recognized experience in the sector, it began a parallel process of closing manufacturing centers in our country (Miranda, Aoiz, Somozas, Cuenca), relocating national production to send it to Portugal, a country with lower labor costs that unfortunately has not been able to manufacture products with the quality that the Spanish plants did, which in the end has led to considerable economic losses," he added.

Likewise, UGT expressed its fear that in the coming months we will see a new step in "the strategy programmed by Siemens" with the possible sales of both the Gamesa Energy Transmission business, which has manufacturing plants in Mungia, Asteasu, Sigüeiro , Lerma and Burgos, as well as the Gamesa Electric business, with manufacturing plants in Reinosa, Valencia and Madrid, which would leave Ágreda as the only Siemens Gamesa manufacturing center in Spain.

For this reason, in the face of these dismantling movements, the union called on the CNMV "and the rest of the bodies involved in giving the green light" to the takeover bid launched for the 33% of the shares that Siemens Energy still lacks, which, before authorizing this movement, make sure on this occasion that the German group "maintains I D i in Spain and applies a medium and long-term industrial project" for the company.
