Turkey will not ratify the entry of Sweden and Finland into NATO if they do not keep their commitments to the country

MADRID, 2 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated this Saturday that Turkey will not ratify the entry of Sweden and Finland into NATO until the two Nordic countries "keep" the promises they have made to Ankara.

During a speech in the Turkish Parliament, Erdogan stated that his government "closely follows whether these promises are fulfilled or not" and has assured that the final decision will depend on that same chamber, according to Turkish public television TRT.

Turkey has accused both countries of supporting Kurdish armed groups and the organization of the cleric Fethullah Gülen, which the country describes as terrorist groups.

For European countries to become part of the Atlantic Alliance, their requests must be ratified by the 30 NATO members, 28 of them have already done so while the vote is still pending in the parliaments of Turkey and Hungary.
