Turkey assures that several NATO member countries want the war between Ukraine and Russia to continue

MADRID, 23 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said Tuesday that several member countries of the Atlantic Alliance, not just the United States, want the war between Russia and Ukraine to continue.

"There are those who wanted to sabotage the agreement on grain. But it is not the United States. The contribution (of Washington) has been the elimination of restrictions on the export of Russian fertilizers, the unblocking of ports, (the elimination of restrictions) on banking operations", he highlighted.

The head of the Turkish Foreign Ministry has also explained, during an interview with the Haber Global channel, that there are already 33 ships that have left Ukraine thanks to the protection agreement signed last month in Istanbul between Ukraine, Russia, Turkey, and United Nations.

Precisely this Tuesday, early in the morning, the Ministry of National Defense has reported on its official Twitter account that another ship has departed from the Ukrainian port of Chernomorsk, at the same time that it has indicated that they will be inspected, during the day on Tuesday, three boats coming from Ukraine and another three to Ukraine.

The ships cross the Black Sea to the Bosphorus Strait in Turkey, where there is a joint coordination center in Istanbul, which includes representatives from the UN, Ukraine, Russia and Turkey, and is in charge of screening ships entering Ukraine for ensure that they do not carry weapons or combat material.

The Turkish Foreign Minister has also pointed out during the interview with the aforementioned media that Greece "violates the rights of Turkish citizens of Western Thrace (European part of Turkey), as well as the status of the Mediterranean islands.

"Greece should abandon these policies. If they cooperate, they should not calculate their profits or their losses," Cavusoglu said after assuring on Monday that in the last two years the Turkish side has saved the lives of 41,000 people.

"With the efforts of our Coast Guard, we have avoided deaths in the Aegean," Erdogan said Monday during the graduation ceremony of the Gendarmerie and Coast Guard Academy in Ankara, according to local media.

Greece has accused Turkey of carrying out "illegal" prospecting and exploration activities for hydrocarbons within a short distance of several of its islands. However, the Turkish government rejects the accusations and assures that the waters in which gas is being drilled on an experimental basis belong to the Turkish continental shelf.

Likewise, the Turkish authorities accuse Athens of carrying out military maneuvers related to NATO and third countries on demilitarized islands, something that is prohibited by the Treaty of Lausanne reached in 1923 and that of Paris in 1947. The Greek authorities assure that the The military are in the area to prevent Turkish ships from approaching the Greek coast.

On the other hand, Cavusoglu has commented on the discovery of a gas well near the island of Cyprus. "Our continental shelf also goes through it. We don't allow them to enter our continental shelf in this way," he has said.

"The solution in the Eastern Mediterranean is the fair distribution of income. We have made the necessary notifications to both the UN and the European Union on this issue," the Turkish Foreign Minister has settled.
