Train stations, buses and airports will limit the temperature to 27 degrees from this Wednesday

Restrictions on lighting will also apply.

MADRID, 9 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Train and bus stations, as well as airports, will begin tomorrow to adapt their thermostats and lighting controls to the new requirements approved by the Government, to reduce energy consumption and comply with European commitments arising from the conflict in Ukraine.

Specifically, they will limit the temperature of their buildings to a minimum of 27 degrees during the summer and a maximum of 19 degrees in winter, at the same time that they will turn off the lighting in the shop windows from 10:00 p.m. in unoccupied premises, according to the brand. the decree approved by the Government.

However, the interior of trains and buses will be exempt from compliance with the temperature requirement, as will health and hospital centers, training centers (schools, universities or nurseries), hairdressers, laundries or gyms.

In this way, Adif, which manages the train stations, will begin to apply this Wednesday the measures of the royal decree in the railway stations, both those related to air conditioning and lighting, as confirmed to Europa Press in company sources public.

The management of the bus stations, for their part, is usually the responsibility of the municipalities, although some infrastructures, such as the Méndez Álvaro station in Madrid, have private concessionaires, which in this case is Grupo Avanza. Thus, it will be the municipalities or these private companies who have to apply energy efficiency measures.

On its side, Aena, the state company that manages airports and airport operations, will be the entity in charge of enforcing the royal decree in this type of infrastructure. Also in the tourism field, hoteliers have confirmed that they will continue to comply with the regulations and provide "the maximum evidence of comfort for customers so that they continue to trust in the holiday experience in Spain".

In any case, Spain already has a demanding regulatory framework for rational energy consumption. For example, the Regulation of Thermal Installations in Buildings (RITE), approved in 2007, already establishes obligations for proper management and efficient energy consumption in air conditioning or domestic hot water production systems.

In particular, for buildings and premises for administrative use, including public administrations, commercial establishments such as department stores or shopping centers, cultural spaces such as cinemas or congress centers, or infrastructures intended for the transport of people such as stations and airports, it provides that it cannot use conventional energy to heat above 21 degrees or cool below 26 degrees.

Likewise, it establishes that these buildings must have devices that measure temperature conditions, and the obligation to have door closing systems that avoid energy waste that would be caused by keeping them open. Finally, it establishes inspection regimes for air conditioning and domestic hot water installations, which include, for installations of more than 70 kilowatts (kW), specific energy efficiency inspections once every four years.
