The Spanish combat group 'Dédalo 23' carries out amphibious operations on the French coast

MADRID, 28 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The 'Dédalo 23' Expeditionary Combat Group carried out various modalities of amphibious operations on the French coasts of Corsica and Toulon between January 23 and 27, as part of the Spanish contribution to maritime security in the Mediterranean and Europe, as reported the Ministry of Defence.

The group, under the command of Rear Admiral Gonzalo Villar, is articulated around the 'Juan Carlos I', an embarked air unit made up of AV8B 'Harrier' planes and helicopters, a Reinforced Marine Infantry Landing Battalion, the 'Victoria' frigates and 'Blas de Lezo', the amphibious ships 'Galicia' and 'Castilla' and the combat supply ship 'Cantabria', as well as a detachment of helicopters from the Air Force of the Army. Additionally, the 'Tramontana' submarine is scheduled to be integrated in the coming weeks.

Among the operations carried out in French territory, it is worth highlighting the "raids" or "coups", consisting of the surprise insertion on land of the Landing Force. NEO operations, for the Evacuation of Non-Combatants, were also carried out, which involve the relocation of civilian personnel in situations of risk in foreign territory.

Throughout the first quarter, the deployment of 'Dédalo 23' in the Mediterranean will continue in order to increase its training and show Spain's firm commitment to the Alliance's Deterrence and Defense Policy.

This deployment will also serve to prepare their qualification and certification for subsequent incorporation into the NATO Readiness Initiative (NRI) in 2024 and strengthen the image of the Armed Forces in the international context.
