A total of 11,113 taxpayers declared work income in personal income tax of more than 600,000 euros per year in 2020, which represents a decrease of 6.7% compared to the previous year, according to the latest statistics of tax filers of the Income Tax of Personal Income Tax (IRPF) corresponding to the 2020 financial year published by the Tax Agency.

Despite this fall and assuming a very low figure (0.05% of all filers), between 2007, at the beginning of the previous economic crisis, and last 2020, taxpayers who have declared incomes higher than the 600,000 euros have grown by 5% from the 10,580 filers who had this income more than a decade ago.

In addition, the taxation of these taxpayers has gone from the 190,451 euros on average that they paid to the Treasury in 2007 to the 195,444 euros that they paid in 2020. Compared to the 2019 financial year, when they paid an average of 227,529 euros, it fell by 14.1% .

In contrast, most taxpayers (4.33 million, 20% of the total) declared income of between 12,000 and 21,000 euros and another 4 million, income of between 30,000 and 60,000 euros (18.9% of the total) .

In addition, 3.55 million (16.45%) declared income between 1,500 and 6,000 euros, while another 3.47 million (16.05%) declared between 21,000 and 30,000 euros per year in income from work. Another 2.3 million (10.66%), declared between 6,000 and 12,000 euros.

On its side, 1.5 million personal income tax settlements (7.1% of the total) were in the lowest bracket, between 0 and 1,500 euros for the entire year, while a total of 1.4 million declarations , 6.6% of the total, registered a negative or zero declaration result.

In the highest part of the table, the taxpayers who declared between 60,000 and 150,000 euros were a total of 802,685 people (3.71% of the total), and those who had returns between 150,000 and 600,000 were 103,394 (0 .48% of the total).

In this way, and also adding those who declare more than 600,000 euros, the set of taxpayers with incomes of more than 60,000 euros reached 917,192 in 2020, 0.5% more than in 2019, mainly due to the increase in filers in the range from 60,000 to 150,000 (1.08%).

According to the statistics of personal income tax filers for the year 2020, a total of 21,638,795 settlements were submitted, which represents 2.9% more, in a year marked by the increase in those required to declare as a result of the Files of Temporary Employment Regulation (ERTE) and due to the obligation to submit a declaration for all recipients of the Minimum Vital Income.
