The party prepares a central act with former socialist presidents and historical leaders to remember its great electoral victory

MADRID, 2 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The PSOE is preparing a campaign of events throughout Spain to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the victory of Felipe González on October 28, 1982, among which will be a great event with the president and the former socialist presidents of the Government. Madrid, Barcelona and Seville will be the points where the activities will take place, according to what socialist sources informed Europa Press.

In Ferraz they are still closing the organization of these events and they are considering that the central meeting, which will be attended by the entire party leadership plus some historical leaders, can be held in Seville on Saturday, October 29.

The Socialists will turn to this anniversary which was a historic victory for the PSOE, the first after the Second Republic. It provided this party with a very large absolute majority that has not been repeated, 202 seats out of the 350 in the Congress of Deputies, after dragging more than 10 million votes (46%) in a day in which almost the 80 percent of the census and after leading an electoral campaign under the slogan "For change".

The 'photo of the Palace', which is already part of the history of Spain, staged the victory with Felipe González and Alfonso Guerra going out to the balcony of Suite 110 of the aforementioned hotel, being acclaimed by the crowd gathered to celebrate the socialist triumph.

This PSOE victory also completely changed the Spanish political scene, with the near disappearance of the Union of the Democratic Center (UCD), which had been suffering a serious internal crisis, succeeded by Manuel Fraga's Popular Alliance as the main opposition party, the embryo of the current Popular Party.

The problems of the UCD had already caused the resignation of the president, Adolfo Suárez in 1981 and, later, the early call for elections by Calvo Sotelo. In between, the failed coup d'état of Lieutenant Colonel Tejero took place on February 23, 1981.

Now, when they are 40 years old, the socialists want to remember that moment. For this they plan to carry out a campaign of events throughout the Spanish geography. One of them will foreseeably take place in Seville -the birthplace of Felipe González- although Madrid is also contemplated, to carry out the central act of the commemorations, where it is expected to have, in addition to Felipe González, the President of the Government, Pedro Sanchez.

The idea, according to socialist sources, is that the regional presidents and former historical leaders of the party will also attend, with the question of whether Manuel Chaves will attend, who in addition to having been president of the Junta de Andalucía for 19 years was also president of the PSOE and José Antonio Griñán --with 4 years at the head of the Andalusian Board and two as the PSOE president--, after being convicted of the 'ERE case'.

Regardless of where the main event is held, the tribute to Felipe's victory will be present both in the Spanish capital and in Seville. In Madrid, the idea that they contemplate in the party is to carry out activities at the party's national headquarters on Ferraz street and they study, among other things, setting up an exhibition and projecting a documentary, always with the 'leitmotif' of the great victory of 1982 background.

Seville, for its part, is essential for the electoral evolution of the party, which faces an electoral year in 2023 with municipal and regional elections in May and general elections a few months later. The Socialists have increased their presence in the town in recent weeks and it was precisely the starting point of the 30-act tour in which Sánchez seeks to get closer to his electorate and explain the government's action.

There will also be another act in Barcelona with the PSC in addition to other locations throughout the national geography. In total, the acts will last for about five days, according to the sources consulted.
