The PSOE questions the credibility of the PP about its support for the reform of the 'yes is yes' and hopes that more groups will join

MADRID, 20 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The PSOE spokesperson and Minister of Education and Vocational Training, Pilar Alegría, has questioned the credibility of the PP, regarding its possible support for the reform of the yes is yes law. In addition, socialist sources have pointed out that they hope that other parties that have shown their predisposition to support this modification, end up supporting the PSOE proposal.

Alegría has made these statements when questioned about the fact that her coalition partner, Unidas Podemos, is against supporting the bill registered by the Socialists, while the PP has advanced that it will support the PSOE in this initiative to correct the effects that the application of the law is having, more than 500 reductions in sentences and dozens of releases of those convicted of sexual crimes.

"It will allow me to doubt the reliability of the PP," said Alegría, who has disgraced the main opposition party that on other occasions advanced that it was in favor of a government measure and when voting was opposed.

Thus he has indicated that the PP on more than one occasion asked the Executive to implement the VAT reduction on the electricity and gas and food bills "and when they reach Parliament they vote against" he has made ugly.

In this regard, PSOE sources indicate that there are other parties that have stated that they welcome the reform proposed by the PSOE. Therefore, in the event that there is no agreement with Unidas Podemos and investiture partners such as ERC and Bildu -who have also expressed their doubts-, the Socialists do not contemplate that they will carry out the reform only with the PP. In addition, they indicate that they are having and will have conversations with all groups.

They also rule out that an extraordinary plenary session could be held this week to advance the procedures to correct the law of only yes is yes and point to March 7 as the established date and with which they are working.

Pilar Alegría, when asked if she sees it possible to bring positions closer to United We Can and if there has been any progress, has responded that "there is nothing new" and has insisted on defending the proposal presented by the PSOE, which maintains consent in the center of the law and will increase the penalties.

He has also indicated that now the rest of the political groups must make public their proposals that go in the same direction, "toughen the penalties and maintain consent as the core of this law."

Alegría expressed herself in this way, after the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, in an informal conversation with journalists last week, reproached United We Can for not making its proposals public.

On the other hand, when questioned about whether other laws negotiated with the purples and pending approval such as the Housing Law or the gag law, are being linked to what may happen with the reform of the 'yes is yes', Alegría has limited to pointing out that they are continuing their process in the Congress of Deputies and that they hope to be able to move them forward "soon"
