The PSOE attributes to "technical" reasons the readjustment of CNI troops in Catalonia and the Basque Country

He denies that it has anything to do with the investigation of unsolved ETA crimes and rejects an extraordinary appearance by Robles

MADRID, 24 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The PSOE has attributed this Wednesday to "purely technical issues" the "withdrawal" of agents from the National Intelligence Center (CNI) of Catalonia, the Basque Country and Navarra, disassociating the readjustment from political issues and rejecting that it has to do with the investigation of unsolved ETA crimes.

In the Permanent Delegation of Congress, the socialist deputy Isaura Leal Fernández has defended that the "withdrawal" of the agents "responds to the criterion of functional needs" and has rejected as "unjustifiable" and "not admissible" the PP's request for an appearance of the defense minister, Margarita Robles.

According to the leader of the PSOE, in any case the explanations should be given by the CNI and not to the Government, and has guaranteed that the new director of the espionage services, Esperanza Casteleiro, plans to appear "in due course" before the Expenses Commission Reserved and there you can ask.

In fact, the law obliges the Government to inform Congress every six months of the use of reserved funds, something that has not yet happened because that secret commission was not set up until last spring, after the 'Pegasus' scandal and the change of requirements to allow the entry of pro-independence deputies.

Isaura Leal has criticized the PP for having used news in the media dealing with classified matters and, therefore, not verifiable to support her request to appear. "There is no element of crisis or social impact that requires the urgency to request an extraordinary appearance," she added, denying that the readjustment has anything to do with the investigation of unsolved ETA crimes.

The request to appear has been defended by the 'popular' José Antonio Bermúdez de Castro, who has maintained that the "withdrawal" of troops is a "demand" and a "blackmail" of the parliamentary allies of the Government, assuring that it is a matter of "maximum gravity".

Along these lines, he criticized the decision to "suspend the surveillance of those who seek to break the territorial unity" of Spain and pointed out that the ultimate objective is to "weaken the presence of the State both in Catalonia and in the Basque Country.

Vox, Ciudadanos and the deputy from Navarra Suma expelled from UPN have spoken in favor of the appearance, but it has been rejected by the government parties (PSOE and United We Can), and by their parliamentary allies from ERC, PNV and Bildu.
