The PPE supports Feijóo in his complaint about Sánchez's "assault" on the TC and denounces him by letter to the European Commission

MADRID, 2 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Spanish PP led by Alberto Núñez Feijóo and the European People's Party (EPP) have denounced before the European Commission the "last institutional assault" that, in their opinion, the Government of Pedro Sánchez has committed with its appointments to the Constitutional Court of the former minister of Justice Juan Carlos Campo and the exalted office of Moncloa Laura Díaz.

Feijóo himself already announced two days ago that his formation would inform the European authorities of the attempt to "control" the Government of Pedro Sánchez to the Constitutional Court because he is "concerned" about the "drift" that is taking place and that, in his opinion, trial, is "putting the constitutional bases at risk" in Spain.

This Friday, the president of the European PP, Manfred Weber, and the spokesperson for the PP in the European Parliament, Dolors Montserrat, have sent a letter to the vice-president of the Commission Vera Jourová and the justice commissioner Didier Reynders, informing them of the latest steps of the Executive of Pedro Sánchez in the court of guarantees.

The popular ones demand that the European Commission defend judicial independence in the member countries of the EU. To this end, they ask that those who have held important positions in the current government cannot be appointed to institutions that will have to rule on the constitutionality of laws and decisions issued by the very government of which they have recently been a part.

In the letter, the Popular Party recalls its position in line with that defended by the EU: to strengthen institutions and avoid the politicization of justice. Nevertheless. The Commissioner for Justice, Didier Reynders, already said on Wednesday that Spain is not the only case in the European Union where there are former ministers as magistrates of the Constitutional Court but that he will wait to have the details of the appointment of former Minister Campo, while He insisted on the urgency of renewing the General Council of the Judiciary to unblock the rest of the appointments.
