The mayor of Paris affirms that the 2024 Tour may not end in the French capital

BERLIN (GERMANY), July 25 (STATS Perform/dpa/EP) -

The mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, confirmed this Sunday that there are ongoing negotiations that could lead to the 2024 Tour de France ending outside the French capital.

"We'll see. This is an issue we are discussing. It's an important issue," the leader told Le Parisien when asked if the 2024 Tour would end in the French capital.

Hidalgo explained that the arrival of the Tour will almost coincide with the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. "We work together intelligently on alternative solutions. We are pragmatic. We will find a solution," he said.

"The opening of the Games is on July 26, 2024. This means that during the previous weeks, the Place de la Concorde will have to be organized," he pointed out about the large square in the center of the city, at the eastern end of the Champs Elíseos, which will undergo a major remodeling for the Games. "The question of the absence of the Champs Elysées in the Tour is not taboo. We will communicate it in due time," he added.

Since 1975, the last stage of the Tour has traditionally concluded on the famous Avenue des Champs-Élysées. The 2024 Tour is scheduled to take place between June 29 and July 21, with its end date just five days before the Olympics start in the French capital.
