The Kings, seated next to the emeritus at the funeral of Elizabeth II

Felipe VI will go to Windsor Castle invited by Carlos III, but not the emeritus

The Kings have been seated next to the emeritus at the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II in Westminster Abbey in the second row and in an area with other members of other royal houses, thus providing the first image together in more than two years.

Don Felipe has been sitting in a corner with Queen Letizia to his right. Next to her was Don Juan Carlos and then Doña Sofía, who had Queen Sonia of Norway and King Harald by her side.

During the ceremony, Don Juan Carlos was seen making some comments with Doña Sofía. The former monarch has worn a scallop shell of the Golden Fleece for the occasion while Felipe VI has come dressed in the gala suit of the Navy. Both Doña Letizia and Doña Sofía, both in black, have worn headdresses.

Zarzuela has insisted these days that everything related to the organization of both the funeral and the other acts to which the King and Queen and the emeritus had been invited, as well as their protocol, was the responsibility of the British authorities, without the House of the King had nothing to do with it.

The Kings and the emeritus already coincided yesterday afternoon at the reception offered by Charles III at Buckingham Palace to all the dignitaries who have traveled to London for the funeral of the one who was queen for seven decades.

At this reception, Don Juan Carlos arrived accompanied by Doña Sofía, for the first time that both have been seen together in public since the emeritus moved to the United Arab Emirates in August 2020. The former monarch arrived walking with difficulty, supported on a cane and a helper. Felipe VI and Queen Letizia arrived later, as they had previously attended the funeral chapel of Elizabeth II in Westminster Hall.

The reunion of the four took place inside the palace, with no cameras present, just as there were none on May 23 when Don Juan Carlos visited Zarzuela for a few hours, on what was his first trip to Spain, after passing through Sanxenxo to attend a regatta.

Although the four have remained seated together inside the abbey, their exit has taken place separately, with the Kings leaving the building together with other monarchs present.

THE KING WILL NOW GO TO WINDSOR

On the other hand, Zarzuela has reported that Felipe VI plans to go now to Windsor Castle where Carlos III has invited the royal houses attending the funeral to attend the religious ceremony that will precede the funeral of Elizabeth II.

Doña Letizia, although she had also been invited, will not attend as she plans to travel to New York on a commercial flight to participate in a series of commitments on the occasion of the UN General Assembly, Casa Real has specified, which had already warned that the need to remain in Windsor until the event is over could make it difficult for them to be there.

Queen Sofía has also accepted the invitation, so she will travel to Windsor with Don Felipe, but not Don Juan Carlos, who "has declined the invitation" that Carlos III had also extended to him, they have specified from Zarzuela.

It is expected that the convoy with the mortal remains of Isabel II will arrive after 3:00 p.m. in Windsor, where from 4:00 p.m. a religious service will take place in the chapel of Saint George officiated by the dean of Windsor, in the presence of some 800 people .

The burial will take place at 7:30 p.m., but it will already be a private ceremony for the family. The remains of Elizabeth II will rest next to those of her husband, Prince Philip, who died in April 2021 and was initially buried in a provisional grave pending the death of the queen.
