The judge of Madrid that investigates adjudication of works in the barracks of the Civil Guard accuses a third command

MADRID, 10 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The judge investigating alleged irregularities in the awarding of renovation works in 13 Civil Guard barracks has agreed to charge a third command of the Benemérita, a commander who was in charge of the Personnel and Support Section of the Alicante Command.

Police sources familiar with the investigation have confirmed to Europa Press that the head of the Investigating Court Number 3 of Madrid has expanded the list of those investigated in the procedure in which two Civil Guard commanders and two businessmen already appear. The same sources have specified that the new accused commander testified at the police headquarters, but has not yet been summoned to appear before the investigating judge at the judicial headquarters.

Specifically, Lieutenant General Pedro Vázquez Jarava, who was deputy general director of support for the Armed Institute, remains charged; Lieutenant Colonel Carlos Alonso Rodríguez, who was head of the Civil Guard Command in Ávila between 2015 and 2017; businessman Salvador Gutiérrez; and the construction businessman Ángel Ramón Tejera de León, alias 'Mon', who also appears in the summary of the 'Mediador' case as a person linked to the investigated general Francisco Espinosa, who remains in preventive detention.

This case has been paralyzed in the Madrid court for at least eight months awaiting an expert report on the works carried out in 13 Civil Guard headquarters: those of Murcia, Albacete, Algeciras, Alicante, Badajoz, Castellón, Huelva, Jaén, La A Coruña, Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Toledo.

Legal sources have explained that the head of the Madrid court in charge of the investigation, magistrate María Isabel Durentez, tries to clarify whether the amount allocated to the reforms of the Benemérita headquarters corresponds to the work carried out and that - although she commissioned a expert report last year--so far it remains awaiting the conclusions of the experts.

The investigation that is now being carried out in Madrid comes from criminal proceedings opened in 2019 by the Investigating Court Number 2 of Ávila for a crime of embezzlement as a result of a report from Internal Services of the Civil Guard.

It was not until 2021 that said court was inhibited when considering that it was not competent because the investigated lieutenant general had the official headquarters in Madrid. Thus, the case was taken up by the Madrid court, in which until now no statement has been taken from any of the four investigated, according to the sources consulted.
