MADRID, 27 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The judge of the National Court (AN) Joaquín Gadea has extended until next Monday the detention of Yassine K, the defendant for the fatal attack this Wednesday in Algeciras (Cádiz), a man whom the magistrate associates with jihadist Salafism.

As reported by the AN itself, the reinforcing magistrate of the Central Investigating Court Number 6 agrees to what was requested by the National Police and recalls that the alleged perpetrator of the events must be brought to justice before 7:30 p.m. next Monday.

In this context, Judge Gadea argues that from the provisional nature of this initial moment of the proceedings and before deciding on his personal situation with the necessary guarantees, a series of procedures must be carried out that cannot be carried out in the initial period of detention of 72 hours.

The author of the criminal action has been transferred to the offices of the General Information Commissioner in Madrid to continue from here this Friday with the investigative proceedings, before being made available to the judge of the National Court, according to confirmed police sources.

In the order by which he authorized the search at his home, to which Europa Press has had access, the judge considers that the facts may constitute a crime of murder and injuries with a dangerous instrument for terrorist purposes, and relates the action to the jihadist Salafism when concluding that with it he intended to "disturb public peace by carrying out acts of terror, which could have motivated criminal action". In addition, he decrees the secrecy of the proceedings for a period of one month.

In his brief, the magistrate points out that the National Police gave him a first official letter this Wednesday in which he reviewed what had happened since the detainee entered the Church of San Isidro with intentions that "are unknown." Once there, he started a discussion with those present, "vehemently telling the parishioners that the only religion to follow is the Islamic religion."

Judge Gadea states that, after leaving the place "professing messages in Arabic whose content is unknown", the man returned around 7:40 p.m. At that moment, the faithful who were inside could hear "how someone located outside the church shouts in Arabic."

"Once the mass is over, the priest in charge of it comes down from the pulpit to check what was happening, at which point the person investigated, carrying a large machete in his hand, suddenly assaults the priest causing serious injuries. Likewise, he also tries to attack one of the witnesses present there," the car says.

The priest is the Salesian Antonio Rodríguez Lucena, who is out of all danger and who this Thursday gave "thanks to God." "Everything has happened and I am waiting to be discharged, to continue celebrating the feast of Saint John Bosco", the religious pointed out.

The magistrate also explains that the detainee also tried to attack one of the people who witnessed the attack on the priest himself.

The police account assumed by the judge indicates that the alleged jihadist then fled the place and went to a Catholic center of worship called Virgen La Palma, located about 200 meters from the other temple. There he met the sacristan whom he later murdered when he was leaving the place through a back door.

At that moment, Gadea recounts, the detainee began several attacks on the sacristan, causing him some initial injuries and trying to flee, although he was finally hit in the street.

"Once he is in the center of that square, he is hit by the attacker who, once he has him on the ground, holds the katana with both hands and looking up at the sky and shouting a few words in Arabic among which is heard the word "allah" deals him one last fatal blow", adds the magistrate.

In this context, the judge explains that, once this attack is over, the defendant goes "very calmly" to the Europa hermitage "located in that same square, and tries to access the interior." There, "without offering resistance", he is detained by agents of the Local Police and transferred to a medical center to receive medical assistance, "at which point he repeatedly shouts Allahu akbar [Allah is great]".
