The home mortgage firm reaches its highest figure in 12 years in June after rising 12%

The number of mortgages constituted on homes increased by 12% last June compared to the same month of 2021, to add 42,767 loans, the highest number in a month of June since 2010, when more than 56,700 mortgages were signed, according to the data released this Friday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

With the year-on-year advance in June, which moderates that registered in May by more than 12 points, the home mortgage firm has chained 16 months of consecutive year-on-year increases.

The average amount of mortgages constituted on homes increased by 6% year-on-year in the sixth month of the year, to 147,539 euros, while the borrowed capital grew by 18.7%, to 6,309.8 million euros.

By autonomous communities, those that registered the highest number of mortgages constituted on homes in June 2022 were Madrid (8,026), Andalusia (7,918) and Catalonia (6,905).

At the intermonthly rate (June over May), home mortgages fell by 3.2%, while borrowed capital fell by 4.3%. In both cases, they are their biggest decreases in a month of June since 2019.

In the sixth month of the year, the average interest rate for all mortgage loans stood at 2.48%, with an average term of 23 years. In the case of homes, the average interest rate was 2.47%, above the 2.44% of a year before, with an average term of 24 years.

27% of home mortgages were constituted last June at a variable rate, while 73% were signed at a fixed rate. The average interest rate at the beginning was 2.06% for home mortgages at a variable rate and 2.64% in the case of fixed rate mortgages.
