The Government has not yet received the report from Red Eléctrica on the future of the As Pontes plant

MADRID, 8 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Third Vice President of the Government and Minister for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, Teresa Ribera, assured this Monday that the Government is still waiting to receive the report from Red Eléctrica that could determine the future of the As Pontes thermal power plant ( A Coruna).

The report does not focus exclusively on the plant, although it evaluates different possible scenarios in the event of a shortage of natural gas or other energy products. Ribera, who appeared after the Energy Sector Conference held to resolve doubts about the royal decree on energy savings, assured that the Government continues to work on drawing up the contingency plan that will be presented to the European Commission in September.

After the telematic meeting with the regional representatives, Ribera has stressed that the autonomous communities will be able to send specific proposals to be included in the plan until next August 31.

In the case of As Pontes, both the Minister of Economy of the Xunta de Galicia, Francisco Conde, and the mayor of As Pontes, Valentín González Formoso, have shown their willingness to keep the plant operational.

However, the third vice-president has already stated that, if Red Eléctrica considers it feasible to cover 100% of the electricity without the need to keep the plant open, it would not make sense to extend its closure due to the fact that it implies an increase in costs.
