The Government emphasizes that it will fulfill the commitments to increase defense spending acquired with NATO

MADRID, 30 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Minister of Territorial Policy and Government Spokesperson, Isabel Rodríguez, assured this Tuesday that the Executive is going to comply with the commitments made with the EU and NATO with respect to the increase in defense spending, after the Second Vice President, Yolanda Díaz, implied that this would not be the case in the framework of the division that this issue generates within the coalition government.

Specifically, Díaz affirmed that, in the negotiations held between the PSOE and United We Can with a view to the next General State Budgets (PGE), the agreed debt ceiling does not foresee an increase in defense spending, which would have to be at the 2 percent of GDP as agreed with the allies with the Ukraine war as a backdrop.

In the press conference after the Council of Ministers, Rodríguez has emphasized that the also head of Labor referred to "the spending ceiling, not the budget."

In this line, and appealing to "tranquility", the minister has guaranteed that the Government "will work in coalition" to agree on some PGE that give "an answer in a timely manner" to social demands, such as scholarships or equality policies, and comply with commitments. "Spain is a reliable country", she has stressed.
