The Government asks the PP for "responsibility" in sending 'Leopard' to Ukraine and rejects its passage through Congress

SEGOVIA, 27 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Minister Spokesperson for the Government, Isabel Rodríguez, has asked the Popular Party for "responsibility" in the debate on sending battle tanks to Ukraine and has rejected their request that the matter have to be approved by the Congress of Deputies.

"The PP must also be responsible in matters that are of State," Rodríguez claimed in statements to the media on a visit to Segovia, where he has ruled out the possibility that the shipment of 'Leopard' could go through Congress to receive the approval of the lower house.

As he explained, Spain chose to be "on the right side of history" by supporting Ukraine, "the country attacked", and he has thus stressed that the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has explained it in his different appearances.

With this, he has rejected that the shipment of 'Leopard' has to pass a parliamentary vote as requested by the PP and also other groups such as ERC and Bildu.

"It is a complex matter, you cannot act lightly, you must have prevention, determination and avoid giving the adversary more information than necessary," he said, asking to "trust" the efforts of the Ministry of Defense.

"I ask the Popular Party to be responsible. These issues, like others, are a reason to share, but the Government's action is framed within the standards and protocols with which to act in this case," he insisted.

The minister spokesperson has also rejected Podemos's criticism of sending 'Leopard', insisting that Spain is "on the right side of history" hand in hand with its NATO and European Union allies.

"Here there is an aggressor, an attacked, and Spain is defending the attacked State accompanied by the solidarity of the Spanish people," he stressed without giving further details about the number or deadlines that the Government is considering for sending the battle tanks.
