The court refuses to suspend the trial of Camps for 'Gürtel' after Villarejo's words about the origin of the case

He assures that it is not about "extraordinary revelations" and remembers that they are about facts that "are already resolved"

MADRID, 20 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The court that judges the alleged irregularities in the award to Orange Market, one of the 'Gürtel' companies, has rejected on Monday the suspension of the oral hearing after the lawyer of the former Valencian president Francisco Camps urged it after the affirmations of the retired commissioner José Manuel Villarejo on the origin of the cause.

The president of the court, magistrate José Antonio Mora, has rejected "flatly the suspension of the process" assuring that the facts that are detailed in the brief presented by the representation of Camps "are already resolved." And it is that, he has assured himself, Villarejo's words do not imply "extraordinary revelations" that should lead to paralyze the oral hearing.

The now retired commissioner assured this Sunday in an interview for the ABC newspaper that it was the former Minister of the Interior Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba who "launched the Gürtel through his Secretary of State as a political operation", adding that, "however" , the former socialist leader "set limits so as not to annihilate the Popular Party."

In statements to the aforementioned outlet, Villarejo maintains that Rubalcaba's hand prevented the case from reaching, for example, the former president of the Government, José María Aznar, his son-in-law or a series of people, such as the former head of the Executive branch, Mariano Rajoy.

Camps himself has referred to these statements upon his arrival this Monday at the headquarters of the National Court in San Fernando de Henares. "Yesterday there was an interview saying that Gürtel started in Rubalcaba's office. That was said yesterday and nobody is investigating it, and he is very fat," he denounced.

The former Valencian president has maintained that, if true, it would be a "very serious" incident, because it would mean that 'Gürtel' began coinciding with the 2009 European elections. Camps, in addition, has denounced that his imputation in different parts of the case coincided , at later dates, with other electoral processes such as the 2011, 2014, 2015 or 2019 elections.

"They have not found anything inconvenient for me in my assets or in my checking accounts," said Camps, who regretted that along the way "incredible things about Villarejo" could be heard with Baltasar Garzón and Dolores Delgado that have not been investigated .

"Villarejo himself says that with Balta they started this mess after speaking with Rubalcaba and nobody says anything," he insisted, pointing out that it cannot be "forgotten" that the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, the same one that persecutes him in an "ignominious and scandalous", is "a product created" by Rubalcaba and by the former president of the Government Felipe González.

"In 1995 the GAL and all the corruption of the PSOE came out. What did they invent? They created Anti-Corruption to divert attention, just as they do now. Anti-Corruption has worked, here I am, I stopped being president after winning the elections and I'm still coming to the courts", he criticized, anticipating that this Monday will be "a ceremony of confusion and lies".

It should be remembered that Camps is facing a request from the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office for two and a half years in prison for the alleged irregularities in the award to Orange Market, one of the companies in the 'Gürtel' plot, of the contract for the Valencian exhibitor of the Fitur 2009 edition.
