The CNMC wants to know the opinion of citizens on the quality of telecommunications services

MADRID, 21 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The National Commission of Markets and Competition (CNMC) has just launched a public consultation, which will remain open until November 25, to find out the opinion of the sector and citizens in relation to the current model for measuring the quality of Telecommunications services.

Since the entry into force of the new General Telecommunications Law, the CNMC is the competent authority to require providers of Internet access services and interpersonal communications services available to the public (such as Telefónica, Vodafone, Orange, Másmovil or Digi ) the publication of complete, comparable, reliable, easy to consult and up-to-date information on the quality of its services and on the measures adopted to guarantee equivalent access for end-users with disabilities.

Until now, the determination of the quality of service parameters that are quantified and the applicable measurement methods, as well as the content and format of the information that must be made public, fell to the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation.

These are evaluable quality parameters, for example, data transmission speed, Internet access supply time, breakdown repair time, frequency of customer complaints or correctness of invoices.

In the organization's opinion, citizens need to have the maximum amount of information about the services offered in the market and, among this information is, without a doubt, the quality of service offered by each of the operators.

For this reason, in order to exercise the new competence, the CNMC considers it "essential" to know the opinion of the sector in relation to the current model for measuring and publishing quality parameters, as well as the possible improvements that may be introduced.

The public consultation will be open until November 25, 2022 and you can participate in it via the Electronic Office or by email (consultapublica.calidad@cnmc.es).

In addition, the new Telecommunications Law also entrusts the CNMC with carrying out a biennial study of the quality of service offered to end users in rural and sparsely populated areas (with respect to the average quality of service offered to all users located in the rest of the country).

For this reason, it is also considered pertinent to know the opinion of the sector and citizens on the best way in which this new provision should be put into practice.

In the opinion of the CNMC, "measures like this help users of electronic communications services to be able to make their decisions in an informed manner and in an environment of transparency".
