The Chilean president joins the messages of support for Irene Montero after the Vox attack

MADRID, 24 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Chilean President, Gabriel Boric, has joined the messages of support from a multitude of political representatives with the Minister of Equality of Spain, Irene Montero, affirming that Spain faces "a new riot of political violence" after the anger generated in Congress for a comment from the Vox party.

"From Latin America, all my support for Irene Montero. A tireless partner in the fight for greater justice and equality who today faces a new uproar of political violence from the extreme right. You are not alone, Irene. A transoceanic hug!" president of Chile in a message on the social network Twitter.

The message takes place after a row broke out in the Spanish Parliament when the Vox deputy Carla Tocado stated in plenary session that "the only merit" of Irene Montero is "having studied in depth" Pablo Iglesias, her partner and founder of the Podemos party.

After these words, on the bench of other groups such as PSOE, ERC or Ciudadanos, expressions of mute astonishment were seen while Toscano's colleagues stood up applauding with laughter.

Hours later, the President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, numerous ministers and the General Secretary of the Popular Party, Cuca Gamarra, have condemned the intervention of the Vox deputy and have covered the minister.

In the international arena, in addition to Boric, other political representatives such as the president of Argentina, Alberto Fernández, or the leader of the Francia Insumisa formation, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, have shown their solidarity with the Spanish Minister for Equality.

"Political and sexist violence against women is intolerable, and we must strongly repudiate it every time it happens. All our solidarity with Minister Irene Montero, a victim today of cruel attacks," the Argentine president asserted.

"Surprised by the violence of the political methods of the Spanish right against Irene Montero. What way is this of making debate in a democracy impossible?" Mélenchon stressed.
