The big bank earns 10,300 million until June, 8% less

MADRID, 29 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The six largest Spanish banking entities added a net profit of 10,297 million euros in the first half of 2022, which represents a drop of 8.3% compared to the same period of the previous year, which was affected by some extraordinary elements, such as Bankinter's capital gain from the IPO of Línea Directa or the positive impact for CaixaBank of the merger with Bankia.

Banco Santander experienced a profit of 4,894 million euros through June, 33% more year-on-year, after an impact of restructuring charges of 530 million euros in the same period of the previous year.

Behind, BBVA achieved an attributable profit of 3,001 million euros in the first half, which represents an increase of 57%, thanks to the dynamism of income, driven by the growth of the activity, the management of expenses and the lower provisions.

It should be noted that both Santander and BBVA generate a significant part of their income statement with their international activity.

In the case of the entity chaired by Ana Botín, Santander's profit in Spain was 652 million euros, 86% more, due exclusively to the decrease in post-insolvency provisions and lower costs, which offset the impact of inflation .

On its side, BBVA earned 1,012 million in Spain until June, 11.5% more than a year earlier. If the net impact of 201 million euros from the purchase of offices from Merlin is excluded, the profit of the bank chaired by Carlos Torres increased by 39% in Spain in the first half.

CaixaBank closed the semester with an attributable profit of 1,573 million euros, 62% less, due to the fact that the results of a year earlier included the impacts associated with the merger with Bankia. Excluding these extraordinary items, profit grew by 17%.

In the case of Sabadell, the net result amounted to 393 million euros, 78.6% more than the same period last year. Excluding TSB, the British subsidiary of the Catalan group, net attributable profit stood at 338 million euros at the end of June, 86.6% more.

For its part, the Unicaja Banco group earned 165 million euros up to June, which represents an increase of 62% compared to the same period of the previous year.

Bankinter recorded a net profit of 271 million euros during the first six months of the year, 76% less, given that the 2021 accounts included the extraordinary capital gain that the bank recorded for the IPO of Línea Directa. The improvement in profit was 10.8% without this impact and 32% if only banking activity is taken into account.
