MADRID, 14 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The athletes who contributed from their jobs on the front line to the fight against the pandemic, such as the canoeist and police officer Saul Craviotto; the athlete and doctor Susana Rodríguez, among others; They received the 2020 National Prize for Extraordinary Sport this Thursday, according to a resolution signed by the Government.

"The president of the Higher Sports Council, José Manuel Franco, on behalf of the Government, has signed a resolution awarding the 2020 National Prize for Extraordinary Sports to those athletes who, from their jobs in the first line of the fight against Covid, they gave the best of themselves, transferring the best values of sport to the battle against the pandemic," the CSD reported in a statement.

The award will be presented this Monday, July 18, at the Royal Palace of El Pardo by Their Majesties King Felipe and Queen Letizia, in the same call in which the awards corresponding to the year 2019 will be presented.

Representing the group of athletes, the canoeist and policeman Saul Craviotto will attend the delivery; the athlete and doctor Susana Rodríguez; the rescue and first aid athlete and nurse, Isabel Costa; the canoeist and soldier Carlos Arévalo and the trail runner and civil guard, Luis Alberto Hernando.

Although the National Sports Awards reflect the recognition of people and entities that make an outstanding contribution to promoting or disseminating physical-sports activity, the 2020 edition was special, as practically all sporting events and competitions were cancelled, the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo and sports practice, including individual sports, was limited for many months due to the pandemic.

Thus, the Government creates an Extraordinary Award for a group that, "with enormous solidarity and sometimes from their own jobs", contributed to fighting the virus.
