Talgo is awarded a contract to manufacture and maintain seven night trains in Egypt for 280 million

Talgo has been awarded a contract by the Egyptian state railway company (ENR) to manufacture and maintain seven Talgo night trains for 15 years for a combined amount of 280 million euros.

These will be manufactured at the firm's plants in Álava (Rivabellosa) and Madrid (Las Matas) and their first deliveries are scheduled for 2024, as reported by the company to the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV) on Tuesday.

The entry into force of the contract is subject to a condition related to its financing that Talgo expects to be resolved in the coming months.

The Spanish firm already signed a contract in 2019 to supply six complete towed trains to ENR and maintain them for eight years. These have just finished their first track tests and the procedure for their delivery has begun.

The vehicles are made up of a locomotive and 15 passenger cars each and will be used on the country's trunk line that connects the port of Alexandria with Aswan, the country's southernmost city.

The firm recorded a net attributable profit of 5.5 million euros during the first half of the year, 46% less than in the same period of 2020.

The company invoiced 217.7 million euros, 25.7% less than in the same period of the previous year, due to a conjunctural decrease in manufacturing due to disruptions in the supply chain.

The company's order book exceeded 2,900 million euros at the end of June.
