Sweden sees a "deliberate act" of a state actor in the Nord Stream sabotage

BRUSELAS, 30 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Sweden has pointed out this Friday that a state actor is behind the sabotage of the Nord Stream gas pipeline, although it has avoided pointing to a specific country and the possible response of the European Union to an attack on its infrastructure.

"It is very likely that the act was deliberate and not an accident and it is highly unlikely that it was done by someone other than a state without being detected first," said Swedish Minister for Energy and Digital Development Jashayar Farmanbar. in statements before the extraordinary Energy Council that will study the situation of the European energy market and will review the incidents experienced in the Baltic Sea.

In any case, the minister has asked to see these episodes in "the current security situation in Europe", although he has avoided directly pointing to Russia or advancing what steps the EU can take in retaliation.

The EU energy ministers are examining this Friday the Nord Stream gas pipeline incident and a possible response, within the framework of the extraordinary meeting in Brussels to determine emergency measures in the face of the insecurity of Russian supply caused by the conflict in Ukraine.

The operator of the Nord Stream, Nord Stream AG, said on Tuesday that the damage suffered by three of the pipes late on Monday was "unprecedented", following a gas leak in one of the sections of Nord Stream 2 and a pressure loss in the Nord Stream 1. A fourth leak was detected on Thursday.
