The Ministry of Defense has reported this Friday that Spain has already contributed "to date" 200 million euros to the European Fund for Peace for Ukraine, without counting on the humanitarian support and the material sent to this country within the strategy to confront the Russia of Vladimir Putin.

The data was offered after the visit of the Defense Minister, Margarita Robles, to the Projection Support Group (GAPRO) in Alcalá de Henares (Madrid), a unit dependent on the Logistics Brigade (BRILOG) that provides logistical support to operations and exercises abroad of the Army and also in national territory.

"To date, Spain, in addition to the humanitarian and material support sent, and the one that will be sent in the coming days, has already contributed more than 200 million euros to the European Fund for Peace for Ukraine," Defense said in its statement. of the visit. In total, the countries of the European Union will contribute 2,500 million euros through this fund.

After criticism this week from the Ukrainian ambassador to Spain for the delay in the shipment of weapons, including the compromised Leopard model battle tanks, the Ministry of Defense has announced that it has a new batch of field artillery ready, fuel, armored vehicles (TOA M-113), point defense missile systems, as well as basic training for the Ukrainian forces in Spain and clothing and winter equipment.

Regarding GAPRO, Defense has highlighted that in 2022 it has carried out 90 activations, including support and evacuation operations for Afghan collaborators and their families, the last one this August, and a large part of the logistical and humanitarian support to Ukraine.

Robles thanked them for their effort and the "plus of humanity and empathy in difficult times", pointing out that "they have saved many lives, some physically, and others psychologically, which is very important", referring to the people evacuated from Afghanistan and Ukraine. "You set an example of discretion, prudence, humility, and also give results," he stressed.

GAPRO, which has five permanent terminals in Spain, four maritime and one airport, requires high technical capacity and a high level of languages ​​from the 319 soldiers, with 20% female personnel. The group was created in 2008 and has the capacity to deploy anywhere in the world at any time.
