Spain, direct to the European quarterfinals with full victories in the group stage

MADRID, 2 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Spanish men's water polo team qualified this Friday directly for the European quarterfinals, which are being played in Croatia, after beating Germany (6-17), a lower team that finished the group stage without scoring while that the world champions achieve a full victories.

David Martín's team, which started like a flash, quickly took the lead and dominated from the first quarter (1-5) thanks to a varied range of unstoppable offensive resources for the Germans.

The world champions were unstoppable in attack and solid in defense, leaving behind the victory suffering against the Netherlands (10-11). Thus, Alberto Munárriz, with three goals, and Sergi Cabanas, with two goals, led his team in a placid victory that reached 2-12 at halftime.

In the third quarter, the Germans showed no apparent signs of improvement to scare a superior Spain and the great defensive system allowed them not to suffer in the least, with a 6-15 lead with the last set to play.

The Spanish team sentenced the win with a partial 0-2, where Roger Tahull became the maximum offensive architect with four goals. In this way, David Martín's men sign their third consecutive victory in the European Championship and go directly to the quarterfinals. A victory in that match would be enough to access the fight for the medals.
