Somalia announces the death of five suspected members of Al Shabaab in a US bombing

MADRID, 4 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Government of Somalia announced this past Friday the death of five alleged members of the jihadist organization Al Shabaab in a US bombing, the first carried out by Washington since February.

The attack took place precisely on Friday in the town of Beer Xaani, near the southern coast of Somalia, as reported by the Somali Army on its Twitter account.

"There is no record of injuries or deaths among civilians, given the remoteness of the area" where the bombing occurred, according to the statement published by the Somali Army on its Twitter account.

"The Federal Government of Somalia and the United States remain committed to their fight against Al Shabaab to prevent the death of innocent civilians," the note concludes.

Last week seven jihadists were killed in the first major operation in the country since the election of Hassan Sheikh Mohamud as Somali president in the middle of the month.

The president revealed after his victory that during the first hundred days of his mandate he will prioritize security and economic recovery, including guaranteeing security in the capital, Mogadishu, the target of numerous attacks by the terrorist group.
