Sánchez says that Feijóo was put by the big energy companies and the leader of the PP responds: it is an insult to democracy

The president accuses him of insolvency or bad faith and Feijóo regrets that the response to his energy pact offer is insult

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has harshly charged Alberto Núñez Feijóo today, accusing him of having reached the presidency of the PP because the large corporations of this country and the energy companies put him there. He has even tried to discredit him by claiming that he is either "insolvent or in bad faith". The popular leader has responded that his words are an "insult" to democracy and that he has gone to the Senate to offer an energy pact and what he has received are insults. "Nothing new in the script," Feijóo added.

This exchange of accusations took place this afternoon in the Senate during an unequal debate on the energy saving plan, since Sánchez has had more than two hours to present his position and reply to the leader of the opposition and he, about 25 minutes.

The head of the Executive has insisted several times throughout his speech that what has been clear to him since Feijóo came to the PP is that "who put him there were the big energy companies, the big corporations of this country" and he has reproached to the president of the PP who does not support the tax on the extra profits of the energy companies, nor that of the banks.

According to Sánchez, this is one of the reasons why the PP does not agree with the Government: "You do not agree because your projects collide with the general interest and only benefit a few who are the ones who supported and encouraged them with enthusiasm." However, he has argued in this regard that other EU countries have approved taxes for energy and banking.

Sánchez has also accused Feijóo of trying to "undermine and overthrow" the Government using the war in Ukraine, but has warned him that "he is going to fail as Casado failed in his attempt to overthrow the Government." In fact, he has reproached him for saying that he has his hand out because, in his opinion, it is to "send the government to the precipice."

The president has also accused the popular leader of making a "sinister and continued use of terrorism for partisan attack" and of instigating the judges of the General Council of the Judiciary not to comply with the law and not renew the Constitutional Court.

And in his attacks on the 'popular' leader, he has also tried to discredit Alberto Núñez Feijóo's experience as ruler by referring to some statements that, in his opinion, are erroneous and that he would have made since he was leader of the PP. This, he has said, despite the fact that he has presented himself as a great manager after spending 13 years at the head of the Xunta de Galicia.

Thus, he has reproached him for saying that the Government "is rich" with the collection due to the rise in inflation when a good part of that money, Sánchez has said, goes to the Autonomous Communities. He has also accused Feijóo of saying that "rural Galicians do not pay taxes" when, he has stated, that is "false".

He also recalled that when the president of the PP made his debut in the Senate, he said that the risk premium had risen to 250 basis points when it was at 110, thus confusing the risk premium with the interest rate. And he has blamed him for having said that the coalition government was burying the Spanish in public debt when, according to Sánchez, this has dropped 7.5 points, while, he has accused, the Galician debt has risen with Feijóo.

According to the chief executive, these examples show that the popular leader is "insolvent" or has "bad faith" in what he says to wear down the government. "So many blunders," Sánchez exclaimed while pointing out that these "are hidden by the media terminals" of the PP. However, he has stated that it must have been a great satisfaction for Feijóo that the Government has decided to lower VAT from 21 to 5 percent. But he has asked her not to get her hopes up because "the stopped clock is only right twice a day".

Pedro Sánchez has also blamed Feijóo for saying that his government is in an "irremissible phase of deterioration" as in the book 'The Autumn of the Patriarch', by Gabriel García Márquez. "Perhaps they believe that describing me as 'the autumn of the patriarch' is not an insult", he exclaimed while pointing out that comparing the political adversary with abominable dictators is "real nonsense". "Is that cultural insolvency or bad faith?" He has asked again.

In any case, he has not agreed to discuss the energy plan that the 'popular' leader has proposed, alleging that his proposals lack "technical rigor" and do not contemplate the climate emergency.

In his response, Alberto Núñez Feijóo said he was not surprised that the president responded with disqualifications and said he understood why the ministers had been insulting him all summer: "Now I understand, either they insult me ​​or they dismiss the ministers".

In the first place, the president of the PP has rejected the pressure on the judges by specifying that "it is not fair" and it is "unfortunate" to say that the judges allow themselves to be pressured by a political party.

He has also rejected that the powerful have put him as Sánchez accuses him, something that he considers an "insult" to Spanish democracy and to all the militants and supporters of the PP. In this regard, he recalled that Sánchez has spoken again today of the "hidden powers" and has pointed out that the most powerful are the millions of Spaniards who, when they have the opportunity, will change the Government.

That said, Feijóo has lamented the "disqualification strategy" that Sánchez has used against him in the debate and believes that he has not understood why he wanted to debate. "For that he could have stayed in his office", he has exclaimed although he has added that he cannot say that he is surprised.

In this sense, he has assured that he has gone to the Senate to offer an agreement on energy policy, ready to negotiate the energy plan, a document made by the PP with 8 blocks and 59 sections. However, he considers that while he went with a pact spirit, Sánchez has gone to insult him. "There are no novelties in the script", he has snapped at the same time that he has reproached Sánchez that his intervention is not typical of a president. He has insisted, yes, if he rectifies, he will have the PP on his side. But he has added that "to make opposition, (Sánchez) only has to wait for the next elections."

In addition, Feijóo has defended himself against accusations of insolvency, claiming that Sánchez should be a little more humble because his only government experience is being an opposition councilor. In addition, he has said ironically that he had read the resume of one of his ministers and it had taken "a few seconds."

He has also rejected Sánchez's affirmation that the PP has not supported a single one of the Government's measures because it has supported 52 percent of the decree laws that the Executive has taken to Parliament.

Likewise, he has rejected having insulted Sánchez for mentioning 'The Autumn of the Patriarch'. The 'popular' president has affirmed that Sánchez has won an election and a dictator rules in all of them, while he does not rule even in his government. "I have said and I reiterate that he is a bad president in his last moments, it is not an insult, it is a chronicle", he has riveted.

Sánchez closed the debate with Feijóo by dividing Feijóo's proposal into three. One part, he has said, is already being applied; another is counterproductive because it does not take into account the climate emergency and about which they can share, such as the drop in VAT, they have asked the PP to support it.
