Sánchez assures that he will go for re-election in 2023 after being accused of seeking a position abroad

Call on Arrimadas to withdraw the motion of censure against Von der Leyen in the European Parliament

MADRID, 8 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has assured that he will stand for re-election in the next general elections as a PSOE candidate and that he aspires to win them. In this way he has met the accusations of the leader of Ciudadanos, Inés Arrimadas, who has accused him of using the Spanish institutions to join an international organization when he finishes his Presidency.

In his last turn to speak in Congress, where he has gone to inform the deputies of the agreements of the last European Council and the consequences of the new relationship with Morocco, Sánchez has accused Arrimadas of insulting him and pouring hatred on the government bench. "What did I do to him?", He has asked him.

In this way it has made him ugly that he speculates that he wants to leave and that he is not going to win in the next appointment with the polls, --"with the one we have on us"-- in reference to the crisis caused by the war in Ukraine and the possible looming food crisis.

"This is the debate of the liberals in Europe? It's absurd," Sánchez crossed out, confirming that he will continue to be the socialist candidate: "Stay calm (...) I'm going to stay and I'm going to aspire to win the elections in 2023," he assured.

Previously, the orange leader had accused Sánchez of using the Spanish institutions to go to some international organization when his Presidency ends, because, in his words, "he is assuming that he will not be able to repeat as president."

"I regret after the European Council that Spain has not managed to lead any of the issues discussed and it is because when you go you do not even represent a government, a State policy (...) for that you have to come, debate and agree , but you should also have some partners aligned with the position that you defend", he has indicated, emphasizing that Sánchez "only defends one position: that of his person".

Sánchez has received similar accusations in recent weeks. On May 26, in his appearance in Congress for the espionage case with 'Pegasus', the leader of Vox Santiago Abascal also questioned whether the president was going to stand for re-election. "It would be good if you say if you are going to be the PSOE candidate and if you are going to dare to stand for election. I sense that you are not," Abascal assured during his turn to reply.

The head of the Executive has stated that he feels "hurried" and "shame" for having to enter such a poor debate and has responded to Arrimadas by discrediting him that the European liberals have presented a motion of censure against the president of the European Commission, Ursula Von der Leyen. Thus, he has demanded that they address their MEPs in the Strasbourg parliament to withdraw that motion that, in his opinion, contributes to the interests of the Russian president, Vladimir Putin.
