Santiago (PCE) affirms that his dismissal as Secretary of State for the 2030 Agenda was "not expected"

MADRID, 23 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The General Secretary of the Spanish Communist Party (PCE), Enrique Santiago, has indicated his surprise at his replacement as Secretary of State for the 2030 Agenda by Lilith Verstrynge, stating that this decision was "not expected" by the Ministry of Social Rights directed by Ione Belarra.

In an interview with the newspaper 'El País', Santiago has assured that there have been "more or less complex moments in political relations", although "right now I did not expect it", in reference to the change by Verstrynge who will be appointed new secretary of State for the 2030 Agenda to replace Santiago on Tuesday in the Council of Ministers.

However, he has indicated that the ministry would be carrying out a restructuring and that, for the rest of the legislature, they have considered that it was "better" that he dedicate himself to work in the parliamentary group, an explanation that the ministry itself also gave yesterday. In addition to being the leader of the PCE, Enrique Santiago is a deputy for the Confederal Parliamentary Group of United We Can.

Santiago has stated that he is not "internal fights" and has thanked Belarra for having had him, despite being "from another party. It is not very common." "Secondly, it is to be appreciated that we can all continue working on what lies ahead," he added.

Similarly, during the interview, Santiago has asserted that the personal relationship "is good", although politics "I think it is known to everyone as it is". In this sense, he has pointed out that the negotiations to form a left-wing coalition in Andalusia for the elections on June 19 "used up a lot of political space" and limited "the ability to generate hope" to start the electoral project in the region. .

On the other hand, Santiago has shown his support for the Second Vice President and Minister of Labor and Social Economy, Yolanda Díaz, who has recently presented her new political project, Sumar.

Specifically, he has stated that "there is no doubt" that Díaz should be a candidate for the presidency of the Government. "Hopefully she is willing to be," he has deepened, although he has not been opposed to evaluating other candidates: "The current space of United We Can is absolutely democratic."
